Flight of the Bumblebee

A winged insect was my passenger this morning on my way to work. I thought about how clueless he was. This little guy was being transported many miles, to another state, all because he entered my car window as I started my commute. He didn’t know any better. The glass windshield is an invisible barrier to him. I think he looks stupid trying to escape. I imagine his lifespan is short. Maybe a few months? years? At any rate, his lifespan is significantly shorter than mine (…right?) He’s wasting away in this car. Every few seconds he sits, still, doing nothing, he has wasted his time. Relative to his short life these seconds are not insignificant. These are huge chunks of his life. And yet he sits. The windows are open. Opportunity awaits. It’s literally an open window. The insect need only exit the open window and he is free.

He runs into the glass windshield.
